Chinese Government Scholarship Application

Applications for the 2026/2027 Chinese Government Scholarship are now open in Sweden. Online application and the corresponding application documents should be submitted to application receiving agency (Agency Number in Sweden is: 7521).

Online application: Completed application materials must be submitted to Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS, www.campuschina.org) no later than February 8, 2026.

Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor undergraduates, postgraduates, general and senior scholars.

Duration

The Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The language courses last one year, whereas the duration of the scholarship for major study conforms to that as required.

Institutions and Majors

Designated Chinese universities offer scholarship recipients academic programs in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, and fine arts, among others. Scholarship Coverage

1. Tuition fees;

2. Free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy;

3. Stipend:

Undergraduates: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance:

CNY 800 per person per year;

CNY 400 per person (for programs lasting less than six months)

Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must

- be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentallyand physically.

- be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

- be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

- be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

- be a high school graduate (at least) under the age of 45 when applying for general scholar programs;

- be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

- take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (short as CSCA)" and upload a valid score report whenapplying for bachelor programs.

- have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 3 when applying for Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar programs (studying Chinese language are exempted);

- have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 3 when applying for Chinese-taught senior scholar programs;

- have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs;

- meet the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability, language proficiency and other relevant criterial.

Application Process

1. An applicant shall learn about designated Chinese universities and majors they offer by visiting websites (http://www.campuschina.org) or other means, and identify the preferred scholarship program, designated university and major;

2. An applicant shall reach the designated university for admission documents;

3. An applicant shall reach an application receiving agency (Education and Culture Section, Chinese Embassy in Sweden) for a recommendation;

4. An applicant shall fill in and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System(http://www.campuschina.org);

5. The application receiving agency shall submit the recommended candidates list and their application documents;

6. The CSC will organize designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants’ eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates;

7. The CSC will notify the admission results to the application receiving agency that will subsequently have the applicant informed.

Application Documents

a) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English).

b) Applicants are required to submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of their ordinary passports. If the validity period of the currently held passport is less than 12 months (calculated from the expected start date of study), please renew the passport and use it to complete the scholarship application. An applicant who fails to apply for a passport due to objective reasons may submit valid documentation or documentary evidence that carries information about the full English name, gender, nationality and date of birth of the applicant upon the approval of the application receiving agency;

c) Notarized highest diploma: Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

d) Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

e) Language qualification certificates. Applicants for master's, doctoral, general scholar, and senior scholar programs taught in Chinese must submit a valid HSK score report that meets the corresponding Chinese language proficiency requirements. Applicants for programs taught in other languages are required to provide relevant language proficiency certificates, such as IELTS or TOEFL score reports, in accordance with the requirements of each university.

f) CSCA Score Report.Applicants seeking to pursue a bachelor's degree must register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline, and obtain a valid Score Report. Please contact the target institution to inquire about and obtain the required test subjects for the applied major.Applicants intending to enroll in September 2026 are required to register for and take the CSCA on December 21, 2025, or January 25, 2026.

g) Pre-Admission Documents. All applicants must provide a pre-admission document issued by the universities applying. Pre-admission documents include pre-admission notice issued by the international students admission department or invitation letter from the schools or professors, etc.

h) A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.)

i) Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.

j) Example of Art. To apply for art or design related majors, applicants could submit their own works through “Example of Art/Other Supporting Documents” in the system. Applicants could also provide such materials to the applied universities directly in other ways.

k) Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

l) Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (see attachment 2) completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

m) Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

Reminder: Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

Only online application will be accepted and no need to send us the printed papers anymore.
