On December 12, 2024, Ambassador Cui Aimin met with the Secretary-General of the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO Maria Wilenius. They exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries within UNESCO and related fields.
Ambassador Cui provided an overview of China’s efforts to promote high-quality development and realize the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through further reform and opening up and China’s participation in relevant international cooperation. He emphasized that changes unseen in a century are unfolding at a faster pace and are bringing about more global challenges, and thus it is important for countries to build consensus and strength and take active steps to build a community with a shared future for mankind. He expressed hope that the two sides would adhere to the spirit of mutual respect, openness, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit, enhance communication and mutual learning, and deepen the practical cooperation in the field of education, science and culture, so as to benefit both countries and people around the world.
Ms. Wilenius provided an update on Sweden’s participation in UNESCO activities and expressed the readiness to strengthen collaboration with China in related areas to promote the common development and social progress of the two sides.
